Values Based Education
Values Based Curriculum Intent at Kingsway Primary School
At Kingsway Primary School, our learning is centered around books that embody our school values. We believe in togetherness, thriving on our differences, having a passion for learning, and being constantly motivated to grow and improve. Our values govern how we conduct ourselves, what we communicate, how we build relationships, and how we learn. They are an integral part of all aspects of life at Kingsway Primary School and are embedded our school culture including being emphasised during assemblies, through our behaviour management systems, and within school-wide learning activities.
Our values are addressed directly through lessons and assemblies and also permeate the whole curriculum. Our children learn what our values are, how to recognise them and how people react to them, equipping them with invaluable social skills and emotional intelligence. We encourage them to consider the values in everything they do and thereby to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to develop as reflective learners. During our weekly Values Assembly, we love to celebrate the children who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to our core values over the course of the week.
Values are taught and referred to at every opportunity and we are working towards a Values-based Education Quality Mark.
As a child moves into their final year at Kingsway Primary, we reflect on their experience, enjoyment of school and learning, and the impact that the Kingsway Curriculum has made on each individual child.
Our Kingsway Curriculum strives to prepare the children within our school family academically, socially, morally and culturally for the next steps of their life journey. It is vital that we feed their curiosity in order for them to become lifelong learners. We continually ask ourselves:
· Are our children reaching their full potential in their learning?
· Are our children able to confidently interact socially with their peers?
· Are our children able to use a strong moral code to make informed choices?
· Do our children embrace cultural diversity and understand difference in other?
· Are our children curious about learning and are they enthused to continually learn as they grow and develop?
As a school community inclusive of pupils, parents, staff and governors we reflect on the above questions with the intention of creating an authentic curriculum that is personal to the unique needs of the children of Kingsway Primary, whilst also being in line with the National Curriculum.
We have categorised the learning behaviours of our curriculum into our four school values. These learning behaviours are the backbone to how and what we teach the children, underpinning our curriculum and form the ‘Kingsway Way’. Pupil voice was used to create the list of learning behaviours.
We have created Values Based Statements for each of the curriculum subjects. You can access these by clicking the link below.
