School Parliament

Welcome to the Kingsway School Parliament

We have two representatives from each class from Years 1 to Year 6, making 12 School Parliament members in total. We have been elected by the children in our classes and our job is to represent them and be their “pupil voice.” Our photographs are displayed in the entrance hall.

What do we do?

We meet monthly to share suggestions and ideas. We might focus on fundraising, mental health awareness or even new school equipment!

We know our views are listened to by the adults in school and the School Parliament activities are discussed by Governors at their meetings as an agenda item. Our School Parliament represents the views of all our pupils. It gives children the opportunity to make their voices heard and feel part of the whole school community.

Please check in regularly to see what we have been up to.

Tuesday 24th March

Kingsway is committed to inclusion and ensuring that all children feel supported through equitable access to school life. One way we do this is through morning check-ins. The School Parliament discussed the different ways these are carried out across the school and researched resources and ideas to support them.

The children also showed great awareness of different needs and preferences by considering how check-ins can be completed discreetly and sensitively. Here are some of the ideas we liked most.

This week, we continued our chat about the OPAL play programme. The children got to see a fantastic video of OPAL in action and we began to make a plan for what we might need to get started.

We spent some discussing appropriate clothing to ensure we can have fun in all weathers and then the children left with the task of thinking about people in our school community who might be able to help us with resources.

Thank you School Parliament - another great meeting!

Tuesday 13th January 2026

Kingsway Primary School are very excited to be joining the OPAL play programme to look at reimagining our playtimes and promoting creativity.

Today, the School Parliament started the first step in gathering pupil voice. We asked "what do our playtimes look like now?" "What do we like/dislike about them?"

Following our last meeting, it was wonderful to hear the children reflecting on the needs of everyone and putting inclusivity at the forefront.

We then started to generate a wishlist for our outdoor environment which the parliament representatives will then share with their classes.

I can't wait to hear what they come up with!

This week, we focused on inclusion - what does it mean? Why is it important? The school parliament worked incredibly hard to record their ideas, linking examples to our school values. The children spoke with confidence about the support available in their school.

Thursday 25th September 2025

Newly elected parliament members met in the library and spent some time getting to know each other. We gave each year group a blue book where they can record the ideas of their peers, ready for our next meeting.

Miss Baskeyfield tasked us with thinking about how school can celebrate 'World Values Day' on 16th October. Our school values are as follows:

We care about TOGETHERNESS

We thrive on DIFFERENCE

We are passionate about LEARNING

We are inspired to GROW

The children generated some fantastic ideas such as a values competition, dressing to represent one of our school values or perhaps bringing something from home that they feel represents a specific value. The parliament are now going to go back to their classes to generate more ideas. Watch this space!
