Mathematics teaches us how to make sense of the world around us through developing a child’s ability to calculate, to reason and to solve problems. It enables children to understand and appreciate relationships and pattern in both number and space in their everyday lives.

At Kingsway Primary School, children are taught mathematical skills through a mastery approach and how to apply these to meaningful situations. To develop a confident and positive attitude towards Mathematics, children have the opportunity to practise their calculation strategies each week during our 'Core Skills'. Our Mathematics curriculum is differentiated so that children work at levels appropriate to their ability.There is a emphasis on communication, fluency, problem solving and reasoning. Children have the opportunity to take part in 'Core Skills Development' sessions where they work individually or in groups to solve interesting and varied problems. We use White Rose, Classroom Secrets NCETM maths recovery to support  our Mathematics Curriculum.
