Summer 1

We work in a creative, purposeful and well equipped environment. We credit ourselves on being a very friendly and hard working group. We have a very exciting half term ahead!

In Summer term, we we will look  at 'The Wolves in the Walls' by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean in Literacy . Our theme this half term will be ‘Sweet Like Chocolate,’ through exploration of the Mayan people. We enjoy maths, especially problem solving and are polishing our skills at working as part of a team. This gives everyone the opportunity to think and share within a group. In our class, we actively encourage each other to read as often as possible and our focused guided reading sessions equip us with a strong skill set, enabling us to read with fluency and build on comprehension . Our Science theme will be ‘Forces.’

We are working hard to create working walls and displays. During this year we continue to strive to be the best writers and so far have produced some good quality written work. We really enjoy using the school computing facilities for a range of learning area, such as Maths, Literacy, Science and History and using i-pads in the classroom. Here we can access a range of programmes to helo with our learning and are becoming very adept at finding our way around on the computer.

PE kits, both indoor and outdoor, are to be brought in for a Thursday and Friday afternoon please. We suggest that the children take these home on a Friday to be washed to be brought back the subsequent week.

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Wednesday. This will consist of a Literacy or Maths based piece of work along with a theme based task. Spellings will be handed out on a Monday in order to have a test on Friday. Please support your child by actively encouraging them to complete homework on time. Please could you also encourage your child to read at home everyday. Discussing the book with your child will develop reading comprehension skills too.

Please help your child learn times tables up to 12x12. Hit the Button is a great game to help with this.

If you have any questions or concerns, please see us at the end of the school day.

Thank you for your on-going support,

Mr Dale and Mrs Leigh
